"My life can only be described as amazing. I have so many blessings. I have friends that truly love me for who I am and would do anything for me. My relationship with my family is better than it’s ever been. I have true purpose in my life and can’t imagine it getting any better than this."

Purple Addiction Recovery Stories

“I started drinking when I was 14.  It was all I hoped it would be and more.  I dove head first into the party scene relying on alcohol to give me the courage and self-confidence I couldn’t muster on my own.  Eventually I got to the point where drinking wasn’t working anymore; no matter how much I drank I was still left with my miserable self and I hated what I had become.  I was wasting away in a vicious cycle of booze and never-ending consequences.

Fresh out of jail, I arrived on the front porch of Purple with a head full of ideas so jumbled I didn’t know up from down.  After some of the fog had lifted I dropped my guard and tried to jump into the program with both feet.  I took direction, trusted the staff, and forced myself to get through the uncomfortable times.  I emerged on the other side with a new lust for life.  Now I seek for ways to improve my quality of sobriety by making myself available to the new guys at Purple.  I enjoy hanging around the host of friends that God has blessed me with.  Purple taught me lessons like humility and selflessness that have given me a new beginning.  I’m looking forward to continuing down my spiritual path.”

“Prior to coming to Purple I was a high school dropout with no job, no car, and no place to live.  I was emotionally and physically bankrupt with no real ambitions in life other than drinking alcohol and using drugs.  I always had the best intentions in life but could never seem to follow through because of my overwhelming desire to get loaded.  I was utterly hopeless.
After a failed suicide attempt, I entered Purple a nervous wreck and didn’t know what to expect.  Everyone there was so much more accepting and friendly than I had ever experienced.  We had group therapy, played a lot of sports, and learned to live sober…together.  It was like a frat house without the girls or the alcohol.  Through Purple, I met a group of friends that were irreplaceable and a God that helped me stay sober.
After four and a half months, I left Purple, got a job, and went back to high school.  I graduated high school and went on to get my EMT certification.  Today I am a productive member of society, I spend time with the new guys at Purple, and I continue working for my sobriety.  Life is good.”

“I was living in California for many years where I got heavily involved with drugs and alcohol.  I left California to work on a construction project in Connecticut.  I thought a geographical change would be the answer to my problem, but I was wrong.  Feeling desperate, I left Connecticut because I needed help.  I headed to Georgia where some of my family lived.  Once I arrived in Georgia, a local church directed me to Purple.
At first, being at Purple was a little awkward; living with a bunch of strangers was not something I was accustomed to.  But I stuck it out and listened to the staff’s suggestions and followed directions.  I stayed there for four months and in that time I learned the tools necessary for recovery and how to get back on my own two feet.  Purple helped me transition slowly back into the real world.
My life now has gotten so much better.   I am once again truly happy.  I’m back together with my wife.  I am happy at work, loving life and I owe it all to Purple and my loving family.”
